Ducks Down UC Santa Barbara
11/22/15 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball never trailed and put away UC Santa Barbara, 79-51, Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena. Senior forward Jillian Alleyne posted her 72nd career double-double as she finished with 15 points and 13 boards to lead the Ducks to their best start since 2011.
How It Happened: Both teams played a sloppy first half, combining for 28 total turnovers. Despite that, the Ducks (3-0) held a 37-24 lead at the intermission. Jacinta Vandenberg led the way with 10 points and Alleyne contributed eight more, six of which came from the free-throw line in the second quarter.
The post pairing of Vandenberg and Alleyne continued to assert their dominance inside during the third quarter, scoring 11 of Oregon's 23 points. The Ducks cleaned up the passing as well, logging six assists to just three turnovers.
The fourth quarter featured Oregon getting its outside game going. Freshman Oti Gildon came off the bench to knock down two threes. Kat Cooper, Maite Cazorla and Lexi Petersen also connected from downtown. For the game, UO was 8-of-16 from behind the arc and five different Ducks knocked one down.
