YAKIMA, Wash. – Caroline Inglis' spectacular summer play continued Friday as she won the 85th Women's TRANS National Golf Association Amateur Championship at the Yakima Country Club.
After shooting 70 and 75 the first two days of the tournament, the senior started her run up the leaderboards on Thursday by posting a 67, putting her just three shots off the lead going into Friday's final round.
Sixteen-year old Pauline Del Rosario was the player to beat and Inglis did just that by posting a 69 for three under par. That score was good enough to give the Eugene, Ore. native a one-stroke lead over Del Rosario and earn her the tournament victory.
Inglis started off Friday's play with a birdie and then held par until hole 13 where she posted another birdie. She followed that up with a final birdie on hole 14 and held par to finish the round. Her final score card for the tournament read 70, 75, 67, 69 – 281 (-7).
The first-place finish for Inglis is extra sweet as she came in second last year and collected the McDonald Runner-up trophy.
Duck teammate Cathleen Santoso also competed in the tournament and finished in a tie for 7th as her final card read 70, 70, 75, 75 – 289 (+3).
Inglis and Santoso will both be in action next week as competition in the U.S. Women's Amateur begins Monday at the Portland Golf Club. The duo posted the two lowest sectional qualifying scores two weeks ago to earn their spots in the tournament.
