The former Ducks defeated Japan on Sunday to clinch the world championship
SURREY, Canada - Former Oregon pitcher Jessica Moore picked up the victory in a 7-3 championship game win over Japan and team USA clinched the WBSC Women's World Championship over the weekend.
Former Oregon outfielder Janie Takeda also played for team USA, helping the squad go a perfect 9-0 at the event, taking back the title from Japan for the first time since 2010. Japan had previously won in 2012 and 2014. As a team, the USA finished the world championship with a .436 team batting average, 19 home runs, 80 RBI and outscored opponents 83-10. The pitching staff was lights out, allowing just eight earned runs for a 1.19 ERA.
Moore's championship game performance (2.2 innings pitched with one run allowed and two strikeouts) wasn't even close to her best of the tournament. In the quarterfinals against Venezuela, Moore tossed a five-inning shutout in a 7-0 victory. She allowed only two hits in fie innings with seven strikeouts.
Takeda tallied four hits in 11 at-bats during the tournament, with five runs scored and two RBIs. Moore pitched 15 total innings over two starts and five appearances with three runs allowed and 23 strikeouts.
