Oregon Soccer Adds Norwegian Midfielder to 2018 Class

EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon's women's soccer program has added Norwegian midfielder Maja Flengsrud to its 2018 recruiting class, head coach Kat Mertz announced Monday.
The Hamar, Norway, native was named the 2017 player of the year for club team FL Fart, after she helped the squad earn a promotion from the third division to the second division.
The 5-6 midfielder and team captain had 23 assists for FL Fart in 2017.
"I had looked at some other schools as well, but the University of Oregon was definitely my favorite," said Flengsrud. "The location was beautiful. Eugene is in many ways similar to home, when it comes to nature and temperature, although it is a little colder in Norway."
Flengsrud's signing makes it six newcomers who will join the Ducks this fall. Last month, Oregon announced the signings of local phenomenon Jordan Wormdahl, the Oregon 5A state player of the year for North Eugene, as well as forward Zoe Hasenauer (Simi Valley, Calif.), defenders Chai Cortez (Kahului, Hawaii) and Claire Watkins (San Diego, Calif.) and goalkeeper Charlotte Brisley (Excelsior, Minn.).
