Soccer, Shaved Heads, Food and More on Tap for Annual St. Baldrick’s Bald Fest
04/18/18 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE. Ore. — The Oregon soccer team will host its annual St. Baldrick's Bald Fest Sunday at Pape' Field. The 7-on-7 tournament will begin at noon, with festival events starting at 2 p.m. In addition to the tournament, the festival will feature a silent auction that includes signed memorabilia, food trucks, carnival games and the shaving of heads for charity. Duck football coach Mario Cristobal will also be one of the guests of honor participating on Sunday.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation raises funds to find a cure for childhood cancer. Every two minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer. At last year's inaugural event, Oregon raised nearly $33,000. This year, more than $31,000 has already been donated.

Several current and former UO student-athletes have gotten involved with the festival. Softball's Gwen Svekis has raised more than $3,000 and will donate 10 inches of her hair; she said would shave her head completely if she raises $10,000.
Soccer public address announcer Peg Rees has raised more than $2,000 while football's Tanner Carew and Justin Hollins have combined for more than $2,800. Four student-athletes from the soccer team have already exceeded $1,000 each, Halla Hinriksdottir, Emily Kaestner, Hannah Taylor and Caitlyn Wong. Hinriksdottir and Wong are the co-chairs of the 2018 event.
Rees, Carew and Hollins will all have their heads shaved on Sunday, along with UO senior associate athletic director Jimmy Stanton, track and field runners Blake Haney and Sam Prakel, and many others. Oregon IMG radio play-by-play announcer Joey McMurry will serve as emcee of the event.
One of the highlights of the festival will be a silent auction. Auction items include a poster and basketball autographed by the 2017-18 Pac-12 champion and NCAA Elite Eight women's basketball team and a softball autographed by the 2018 Duck softball team.
Food trucks include Bates, Every Day Kine Grindz from Hawaii, Vengan Pa'ka, and Elegant Elephant, which offers gluten free baked goods.
There will also be a photo booth with a custom St. Baldrick's photo frame and props, as well as carnival games such as shoebox Jenga, corn hole, face painting and more.

The 7-on-7 tournament will also be the home debut for Oregon freshman Jordan Wormdahl. Wormdahl, who was the 2017 5A state player of the year, graduated early from North Eugene in order to join the Ducks for spring practice.
Sunday is also the Ducks' spring alumni game. UO alums will be fielding a team in the 7-on-7 tournament.
