Wise Earns First Career PGA Tour Win
05/20/18 | Men's Golf
DALLAS – Former Oregon men's golfer Aaron Wise got his first career PGA Tour win in dominant fashion, finishing 23 under for the week in the AT&T Byron Nelson Sunday at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Â
Wise began the day tied for the lead with Marc Leishman at 17 under, but used a 5-under 31 on the front nine to take a two-shot lead. He made six birdies in a seven-hole stretch between holes four and 10 before making eight pars to close out his bogey-free round of 6-under 65.
"I felt oddly calm all day long," Wise told CBS following his round. "To pull that off and to play as well as I did – bogey-free – it was awesome."
Â
The 2016 NCAA Individual Champion is the fourth former Duck to win on the PGA Tour. Ben Crane is the most recent ex-Oregon standout to win on tour as he won the 2014 FedEx St. Jude Classic. Peter Jacobsen won seven times on the PGA Tour while Thomas Shaw won four times.
Â
The win gives Wise a PGA Tour exemption through the 2019-20 season and moved him into 18th place in the FedEx Cup Standings. His score of 23 under for the week also set a new record-low to-par in the AT&T Byron Nelson.
