Yovan named first-team All-Pac-12 Conference

Eugene, Ore. – Sophomore pitcher Kenyon Yovan has been named first-team All-Pac-12 in a vote of the conference's coaches, while Jakob Goldfarb, Kyle Kasser, Matt Mercer and Spencer Steer claimed honorable mention all-league honors.
Yovan earned the honor after finishing the season with a 6-4 record and a 2.98 ERA with five saves and 98 strikeouts in 84.2 innings pitched. His 98 strikeouts are the fourth most in school history trailing only first-round Major League Draft picks David Peterson and Tyler Anderson (twice). In Pac-12 games, Yovan finished 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA.
The Ducks' ace started the season as the team's closer, picking up five saves in Oregon's first 16 games, before moving into the weekend rotation. In his 10 starts, Yovan compiled a 6-3 record with a 2.77 ERA while allowing opponents to hit just .204. He finished the season with eight quality starts and allowed two or fewer runs in eight different starts.
Yovan claimed Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors twice, the first coming after he held then-No. 3 Stanford to no runs on three hits in six innings while striking out nine in a 10-1 Oregon win. His second conference weekly honor came after he struck out 15, third most in Oregon history, in a 9-2 win over USC.
Yovan is just the fifth Duck during the modern era to claim first-team all-league honors in back-to-back seasons. He joins Anderson (2010 and 2011), Jimmie Sherfy (2012 and 2013), Tommy Thorpe (2013 and 2014) and Mitchell Tolman (2014 and 2015).
Goldfarb, a junior right fielder, finished the season leading the team in batting average (.308), runs (35), triples (2), on-base percentage (.397) and slugging percentage (.487), while tying for the team lead in hits (60), doubles (13) and home runs (6). Goldfarb matched the Oregon single-season outfield assists record throwing out seven base runners, while also setting a new career record at Oregon for outfield assists with 12.
Kasser, a senior second baseman, earned honorable mention recognition a year after being named a first-team pick as a junior. He finished the season with a .278 batting average, second on the team, and tied Goldfarb for the team lead in hits with 60. Kasser is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.
Mercer, a junior right-handed starting pitcher, went 5-7 with a 4.16 ERA while fanning 86 in 88.2 innings. His 88 strikeouts are the eighth most in a single season at Oregon and he finished ninth all-time in career strikeouts (178) and fifth in career starts (35).
Steer, a sophomore third baseman, finished the year batting .275 with four home runs and a team-high 37 RBI. He was second on the team in on-base percentage (.407) and OBP (.381), while ranking third in doubles (11) and home runs.
