Raza, Wise Set for U.S. Open
06/13/18 | Men's Golf
Former Oregon golfers and teammates on the 2016 NCAA championship team, Sulman Raza and Aaron Wise, will tee it up at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club Thursday.
Wise, who got his first career PGA Tour win last month at the AT&T Byron Nelson, qualified for his second U.S. Open by shooting 7 under at the sectional qualifier in Memphis. He shot 10 over and missed the cut in 2016 shortly after winning the NCAA individual title.
Raza, who drained the national title-winning putt in 2016 and delivered in clutch situations for the runner-up team in 2017, also got in via sectional qualifying. He finished tied for third at 5 under in the sectional qualifier in Portland to earn his first U.S. Open bid.
No Oregon player – current or former – has ever won the U.S. Open or any of the PGA Tour's four major championships. Peter Jacobsen holds the record for best finish in a U.S. Open by a former Duck when he came in tied for seventh in 1984.
