Ducks Fall in NCATA Quarterfinals
04/28/22 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
EUGENE, Ore. – A sterling effort fell short on Thursday, ending Oregon's time at the NCATA Championships with a 270.340-264.485 loss against Quinnipiac.
Â
Some of the Ducks will have one more opportunity to compete in the individual event finals, held on Saturday at 11 a.m. The top-four scores in each heat from Thursday's competitions will qualify, along with at-large groups who did not make the NCATA Championships as a team but did earn a qualifying score during the season.
Â
How it Happened: The Ducks opened the meet with multiple strong scores in the compulsory event, earning a 9.85 in the pyramid heat and a 9.825 in the toss heat. The Bobcats won the event 38.325-38.125 thanks to slight edges in the toss and tumbling heats.
Â
Oregon bounced back to piece together its most consistent acro event of the year, earning a 28.850 in the event. The five-element acro team of Alexis Weller, Makena Carrion, Emma Keogh and Cami Wilson tied its season high with a 9.85.
Â
UO fell behind in the pyramid event, where a fall cost Oregon as Quinnipiac took the event 29.450-26.225. The Ducks rebounded quickly, however, posting a season-best 28.575 in the toss event. Consistency was once again the key for Oregon. Despite not posting a season-high in any individual heat, the team ousted its previous best by .20 points.
Â
Oregon trailed entering the team event after narrowly dropping the tumbling event 56.85-56.75. The Ducks appeared to have closed the gap in a significant way after posting a fairly clean final event, but UO was awarded a score of 85.690 while QU earned an 88.090.
Â
Up Next: The Ducks will find out on Friday which event finals they made and then compete on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon's national award winners – Alyssa Hew, Sara Buchner and Blessyn McMorris – will also be recognized on Saturday after the event finals. Â
