Golfers Open Spring Season Monday

Oregon opens the spring slate by returning to the Southwestern Invitational for the first time since 2016, when the Ducks finished fourth. The field includes No. 4 Arizona State, No. 14 Pepperdine (host), No. 19 San Diego State and No. 20 Texas. The tournament run Monday through Wednesday at par-72, 7,017-yard North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The Southwestern Invitational will have a live television window from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Pacific on Golf Channel.

• Ranked 36th nationally, Owen Avrit posted his second career win - his first as a Duck - with a T1 at the Cal Poly Invitational to close out the fall. For his efforts, he was named Pac-12 Golfer of the Month for November. It was his third top 10 finish in four tournaments in the fall.
• Thomas Jenkins Jr., a Division II All-American for Sonoma State, will make his Oregon debut at the Southwestern Invitational.
• Oregon tied for ninth at the Ben Hogan Invitational (Oct. 3-4) , a tournament that featured seven of the nation's top 10 teams. Greg Solhaug's T15 led the Ducks.
• Oregon had a fourth-place finish at the Sept. 19-20 Husky Invitational. Oven Avrit led the team with his second-straight top-eight finish of the season. The Ducks also had a strong performance from Nate Stember, who tied for 11th. Freshman Aiden Krafft also recorded a top-20 finish for the Ducks.
• The Ducks had some terrific individual performances in the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Greyson Leach tied for fifth at 12-under 198. His score included a career-low 65 in the second round. Owen Avrit tied for eighth at 11-under 199. He opened the tournament with a career-best 63 that was one shot off the Ducks' school record.
• Oregon returns five of its top six golfers from a team that finished 15th at the 2022 NCAA Championships. That list includes Owen Avrit (71.73), Greyson Leach (72.19), Nate Stember (72.44), Eric Doyle (72.81) and Greg Solhaug (72.86).
