Football Practice Recap: Aug. 11
08/11/23 | Football, @GoDucksMoseley
The Ducks returned from an off day Friday, before holding a scrimmage Saturday.
The Oregon football team returned from a day off and was back on the practice field Friday, as preseason camp continues for the Ducks.
Friday's workout was conducted in helmets and spider pads. The Ducks will be back at it Saturday, for the first major scrimmage of this preseason.
Following practice Friday, running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, receiver Troy Franklin and defensive back Khamari Terrell spoke with local reporters.
Locklyn on where Bucky Irving can improve: "The biggest thing is to keep playing football and block out the outside noise. I don't think my guys get complacent. Bucky is a really good football player, but we have a lot of really good football players. Noah Whittington and Jordan James are really good backs. His next step is to continue to play hard like he's been playing. Trust me, nobody in that room is going to get complacent. I won't allow it."
Locklyn on whether Jordan James will have a bigger role: "That was a big role last year, for a freshman to get the ball on fourth-and-one; I don't how much bigger it can get. When his number is called, he'll go in and play. Those guys I have in the room, we play as one. I tell them that the moment you start reading your newspaper clippings, you're going to fall hard."
Franklin on his relationship with Bo Nix: "It's really cool. I think we're more on target with things, I would say. We obviously trust each other. We know where each other is going to be. Or, he knows where to put it, and I know where it's going to be."
Terrell on his comfort level in year two: "Last year it took me a while to learn the defense. So while I'm learning the plays, I tried to make myself a big impact on special teams. This year, I'm trying to take over the Star spot."
