Vinijchaitham Goes Low, Ducks Move Up to Fourth

LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The Oregon women's golf team moved up one spot to fourth place on Tuesday as freshman Suvichaya Vinijchaitham shined with a 3-under 69 in the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Royal Golf Club.
After closing the opening round of the fall season in fifth place on Monday, the No. 8 Ducks improved by one stroke in Tuesday's second round with a 1-over 289. Oregon now sits in fourth place at 3-over par, with South Carolina leading the field at 19-under par followed by Wake Forest (-2) and Duke (+1).
Vinijchaitham was one of five players in the field to shoot sub-70 on Tuesday, firing a 69 in just her second collegiate round. Oregon also got par-or-better performances from freshman Tong An and sophomore Karen Tsuru for the second day in a row.
How it Happened: Vinijchaitham opened her round with a bogey, but then ripped off three birdies in four holes to get to 2 under through five. She bogeyed two of her next three holes to get back to even before getting hot again with three birdies in her next six holes. After a bogey at No. 15, the freshman's seventh birdie of the day at No. 17 got her back to 3 under, and she secured a 69 with a par on No. 18.
An has now shot par-or-better in each of her first two collegiate rounds, following up Monday's even-par 72 with a 1-under 71. She made the turn at even par after making birdie at No. 9, and she bounced back from a bogey at No. 15 with back-to-back birdies to come in under par.
Tsuru had a similar round, making birdie at No. 9 to get back to even and then matching An with birdies on each of her final two holes. The sophomore carded an even-par 72 for the second day in a row.
An will enter Wednesday's final round as the top Duck on the leaderboard, sitting in 12th overall at 1 under. Tsuru and Vinijchaitham are both tied for 13th at even par.
Sophomore Kiara Romero rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a 5-over 77.
