Desoisa Goes Low to Open Cal Poly Invite
10/27/25 | Men's Golf
CARMEL, Calif. – Freshman Sebastian Desoisa leads the field after two rounds of play at the Preserve Golf Club, with the Oregon lineup sitting in a tie for third place after play was suspended due to darkness.
Â
Oregon opened with a 10-under 278 as a team and sat at second on the leaderboard after 18 holes. After a 9-under 257 in Monday's second round, the Ducks remain in a promising position to close out their fall season. Senior Jay Gould-Healy remains just outside the top ten with three holes left to play in round two.
Â
"The guys played well today. It has been a tough fall for us, but today we got some putts to drop," said head coach Casey Martin. "Amazing to watch Seb [Desoisa] play. He was flawless all day, very encouraging."
Â
How It Happened
The Ducks came out strong to open the tournament, sitting just three strokes behind the lead after the first round.
Â
Desoisa opened play on hole No. 9, shooting four birdies and five pars on the back half of the course. Three more birdies and an eagle on hole No. 8 gave the freshman the top scorecard in the tournament with an 8-under 64 in the first round.
Â
The score marked Desoisa's best collegiate round, equaling the No. 4 low round to par and No. 13 low round in Oregon's program history. The last Duck to shoot 8-under was Owen Avrit at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate in 2024.
Â
Gould-Healy and Aiden Krafft each carded a 1-under 71 in the first round after teeing off on the fifth hole. Gould-Healy had four birdies to counter three bogeys, while Krafft shot a pair of birdies. In a strong second round, Gould-Healy made six birdies and eight pars, moving up 15 spots on the leaderboard with three holes remaining and Krafft ended up 1-over with three holes left as well.
Â
Tim Chang rounded out the counting scores for the Ducks with three birdies to score an even mark in the first round. Chang had a birdie in round two, ending the round 3-over with two holes left to play. Oscar Lent finished with a 3-over 75 in round one, before two birdies and an eagle resulted in an even second round.
Â
Competing as an individual, Jeffrey Kwak made five birdies with just one bogey to end the first round in third place 4 strokes under par. Kwak had another four birdies in round two, but an equal number of bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine set him at two over in the second round with one hole left to play in the second round.
