Bev Smith
- Induction:
- 1992
Hailing from a town called Salmon Arm in British Columbia, everything she did was on a big scale. She put Oregon women’s basketball on the map and seemingly played everywhere else on the globe as an international star for her native Canada. The first woman to score more than 2,000 career points was an all-America selection in every way.
She earned Kodak all-America acclaim twice in her Ducks’ career and also was an academic all-American in 1981 as well, the first-ever woman at Oregon. She dominated the women’s game in the Northwest from 1978-82, leading the teams in scoring, rebounding and steals regularly. She has played in Italy as a professional and in World Championships and Olympics as a Canadian. “She is Canadian basketball in my mind,” one prominent U.S. coach once said.
