Reinhart, Billy

Billy Reinhart
- Induction:
- 1994
He brought Oregon basketball to such a fever pitch as its coach that it was necessary to build a bigger arena. The year that McArthur Court was opened, Oregon won its third straight Pacific Coast Conference Northern Division championship under him, hosted the league playoffs and finished with one of the best records in school history. He coached basketball and baseball successfully and assisted with football at Oregon for 11 seasons, authoring a record as one of the school’s winningest coaches.
He posted the best victory percentage (.639) of any basketball mentor and guided the Ducks to successive division baseball titles in his final two Oregon seasons. He was credited with devising basketball offenses utilizing the fast break and was “15 years ahead of his time,” according to Boston Celtics’ legend Red Auerbach who played for him at George Washington, the school that lured him with the opportunity to coach football in 1935. Hall of Fame Coach Howard Hobson was another Reinhart protege.
