At a height of just 5-9, Dick James was Oregon's leading scorer in both 1953 and 1954 and was one of the country's leaders in pass interceptions. One of the most versatile players in program history, he not only led the Ducks in rushing once (1953), receiving once (1954) and scoring twice (1953-54), but is among the all-time leaders in interceptions. He rushed for 1,434 yards in his Oregon career. James also was a two-platoon standout for eight years with the Washington Redskins, accounting for more than 8,000 in all-purpose yardage in his career. He once tied the NFL record for most points in a game with 24. He was selected for the 1961 NFL Pro Bowl and paced the ‘Skins in rushing (1961-63) and interceptions (1958-59). Popular with the fans, he was inducted into the Washington, D.C., Hall of Stars in 1991.
