Jake Leicht
- Induction:
- 1998
More than 50 seasons past his final football game, the speedy All-America back still ranks among the all-time seasonal and career Duck leaders in school history. He stands number one in interceptions and interception yardage for a season. He’s second in season punt return yards and second in three career categories as well ? interceptions and both punt return yardage and average. His ’45 and ’47 punt returns place him fourth and fifth for runback average, and he ranks fifth in single-season all-purpose yards gained.
Also a tremendous track springer, the 1945 gridiron All-American played in the ’46 East-West Shrine game and is one of a very few players to return to college for another season. In 1947, Jake led the west coast in rushing and was an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection. He was team captain in ’45 and co-captain in ’47, when he won the Hoffman Award as the team’s most valuable player. Jake was named to the Eugene Register-Guard’s all-time UO football team.
