- Induction:
- 2000
The defensive captain of one of Oregon's greatest football squads ever, Berwick was a vital cog for the 1949 Cotton Bowl team which was ranked ninth in the nation in the final Associated Press poll. Head coach Jim Aiken regarded the fierce guard as one of the toughest, finest linemen he'd ever coached.
The three-year starter played on both offense and defense while earning three letters from 1946 through 1948. Awarded the responsibility of calling defensive formations and players, he earned first-team all-Pacific Coast Conference acclaim as a senior. Jim also was selected to play in the Hula Bowl following his final collegiate season.
