John Miller
- Induction:
- 1992
Though he missed qualifying for the 1972 Olympic team, he was Oregon’s most successful wrestler. He was the school’s only three-time all-America in wrestling, the Ducks’ first and only NCAA winner (1969 at 115 pounds), an AAU champion (1972 at 126 pounds) and the top wrestler in terms of career won-loss percentage.
He also was an honors student, nominated for Phi Beta Kappa, and a year away from completing a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the University of Texas Health and Science Center in Dallas when he lost his life in 1978 in an apparent robbery. He won 78 of 90 collegiate matches (.867) and captured two Pacific-8 titles.
