She was the first big winner in the history of women’s track and field at Oregon, helping to propel what has become one of the most successful programs in the school’s repertoire. She overcame a broken foot as a junior and numerous injuries during her senior season to be acclaimed as one of the Ducks’ top sprinters ever, regardless of her early chronology in the evolution of women’s intercollegiate sports.
She contributed to Oregon’s first-ever national individual championship in the sport, earned four all-America certificates and captured 13 regional crowns during an illustrious four-year career. In 1980, she won four NCWSA events for the second straight year, ran the opening leg on the Ducks’ victorious AIAW mile relay unit and advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic Trials in the 200. She held the school record in the 200 (:23.66) for nine years.
