With a flair for the dramatic, forward Nicole Garbin Toeaina overcame injuries early in her career to become one of the greatest women’s soccer players in school history. Few individuals have played a more dominating role at Oregon. She was the first in program history to earn Pac-10 Conference women’s soccer player of the year, earning that honor following her remarkable 2006 season. It was during that 2006 season that she set the modern program records for goals (12), game-winning goals (nine), assists (eight) and points (25) in guiding Oregon to a 12-6-2 record and a runner-up finish in the conference. Of her nine game-winning goals in 2006, the last two came in a 2-1 double-overtime win over No. 3 UCLA and a season-ending 3-1 triumph against USC. In all, she set Oregon’s career records for goals (34), game-winning goals (22), points (83) and shots (257). The three-time all-league honoree and three-time offensive MVP from Wailuku, Hawaii, was selected as Oregon’s 2006-07 Pac-10 Medal Winner as the top female student-athlete of the year.
