Jones, Steve

Steve Jones
- Induction:
- 2003
A three-year letterman for the Ducks, the two-year starter claimed team MVP honors his latter two seasons. He led
the team in scoring as a junior (14.5 avg.) and senior (16.2 avg.). His 37 points in the win over Washington State in
1963 was a then-school record. He was voted to the five-man All-Far West Classic first team in December of the same
year and was named to the 1963-64 All-Coast first team. At the conference level, he earned All-Coast honors as a
senior forward in 1964. Despite freshmen not allowed to play varsity basketball, he still scored close to 1,000 career
points (932 points) in three seasons. He played guard as a sophomore before shifting to forward as a junior and
senior, with the 6-5 player even playing center when occasionally needed. The second of three brothers to play for
the Ducks out of Portland’s Franklin High School, he was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in
1990.
