Women's Tennis Drops Fourth Straight

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Oregon women's tennis team (9-4, 2-3) continued to struggle on Friday, as they were defeated by the No. 13 USC Trojans, 7-0. The loss was the Ducks forth straight and drops Oregon below .500 in Pac-10 play.
In singles, the Trojans took care of business in rather easy fashion, sweeping all six singles matches. No. 72-ranked Luana Magnani defeated Oregon's No. 7-ranked Daria Panova, 6-3, 6-4. It is no coincidence that in all four Duck losses this season, Panova has lost her singles match.
The remainder of the Duck squad struggled mightily. No. 46-ranked Domikina Dieskova lost to USC's Carine Vermeulen, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Courtney Nagle, junior Davina Mendiburu, sophomore Jamie Marshall, and sophomore Anna Leksinska all came up short in their matches as well. It was the third dual in a row the Ducks failed to win a singles match.
In doubles, No. 9-ranked Luana Magnani and Carine Vermeulen took down Oregon's No. 27-ranked duo of Daria Panova and Courtney Nagle, 8-6. At the No. 2 position, Dominikia Dieskova and Anna Leksinska fell to USC's Anca Anastasiu and Dianne Matias, 8-3. The lone bright spot for Oregon was Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak who picked up their ninth dual win of the season, defeating Judy DeVera and Melissa Esmero, 8-4.
"We came out really strong in doubles," said Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander. "We made a few too many mistakes though throughout the match. I tip my hat to USC. They played outstanding and made almost no mistakes."
The Ducks will try to regain their form as the travel across town to take on the No. 11 UCLA Bruins Saturday, March 5, at Noon.
