EUGENE ? The Ducks' eight-match winning streak came to a halt Saturday as they lost to No. 9 Washington, 5-2, at the Student Tennis Center. Oregon (8-1) managed to grab the doubles point for the ninth time this season but lost five of six singles matches.
In doubles, No. 45 Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova improved to 9-0 in duals and 14-3 overall with a clinching-point victory at the No. 1 position over UW's No. 56 Dea Sumantri and Dinka Hadzic. Seniors Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak kept their dual record perfect (9-0) with Oregon's second doubles victory.
In singles, Washington came out hot, picking up quick wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Oregon answered with a Dieskova win at the No. 2 position, but lost the remaining matches.
No. 31 Panova lost for only the first time in dual play this season, falling to the UW's No. 13 Sumantri, 6-4, 6-2.
"Every time we play Washington it comes down to a couple of points here and there," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "They are obviously one of the best teams in the country and that's what we want to be. If we keep playing the way we have, we are very capable of beating them."
The Ducks take the week off before traveling to Arizona to take on the Wildcats (Fri., Feb. 25, 1:30 p.m.) and Arizona State (Sat., Feb. 26, 11 a.m.).
