
Women's Tennis Defeats Boise State

EUGENE, Ore.,- The women extend their win streak to three as they defeat Boise State 4-3 at the Student Tennis Center Wedsnesday eveninng. After what looked to be a slow start for the Ducks in doubles play, they came back strong in singles winning four out of six matches. Once again senior Anna Powaska dominated her singles match extending her singles record this season to 4-0.
"I thought we came out very flat in the doubles play, I was not happy with the performance. But the girls did a great job in their singles play and battled back hard." Head Coach Paul Reber said after the match. "I think our singles play really showed a lot of heart and passion which is exactly what we needed tonight."
The doubles matches were led by Boise State defeating all three Oregon pairs. Bianca Jochimsen and Klaudia Wlodarczwk (BS) defeated Anna Powaska and Siobhan Cavan (Ore) 8-1 in the No. 3 spot. Followed by Laura Baum and Jana Mckova (BS) who defeated Carmen Seremeta and Stephanie MacFarlane (Ore) 8-4. In the No. 1 spot Ana Cecilia Olivos made her way back to courts tonight after resting the last match due to shoulder problems along side Celine Rolly, but the duo was defeated by Polina Kokoulina and Pichittra Thongdack (BS) 8-4.
Anna Powaska continues to make singles play look easy as she defeated Bianca Jochimsen (BS) in the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-1. Siobhan Cavan (Ore) was next to finish up in the No. 6 spot. She was victorious in two straight sets defeating Stacie Housley (BS) 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Stephanie MacFarlane continues her impressive play after beating Klaudia Wlodarczwk (BS) in the No. 5 spot 6-4, 6-1. Carmen Seremeta battled in two sets against Polina Kokoulina(BS) but lost in a tiebreak 6-2, 7-6 (2). Celine Rolly came up big tonight for the Ducks in the No. 1 spot taking the deciding point. Rolly defeated Pichittra Thongdack(BS) in two heated sets 7-6, 7-5. Ana Cecilia Olivos, in an emotional match lost her first set 6-4 but battled back in the second set winning 7-5. In the third set Olivos had the momentum taking the lead 2-1 but the match was retired since Oregon already had enough points to win the dual.
The Ducks (3-1) face St. Mary's Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
Note: Sunday's match against Pacific has been moved up an hour and will now begin at 11 a.m.
