Oregon-UCLA Postgame Quotes

UCLA 70, Oregon 69
March 5th, 2009
Head Coach Bev Smith
On the execution of the last play:
"It was a tough game. We wanted to make sure everybody was in front. But the UCLA player managed to make the half-court shot. We even gave here a little bit of difficulty. I can't fault my team. They did exactly what we asked them to do. We took a time break before that last action, because some of the players got really excited. Taylor was dehydrated. Defensively, I think we did the right thing. I can't criticize my team."
On the game:
"We have to keep up the good execution. Taylor Lilley and Micaela Cocks played very well and fought for us. I like the way we played against their press."
#11 Amanda Johnson
On the loss:
"It's frustrating, especially after Taylor scored the points and we were ahead. That last shot knocked us off. But we need to learn you don't lose a game by a lucky shot. It was our fault that we were only up by two points. We have to learn from this game. The loss is a mutual responsibility. We put a lot of passion into playing tonight, especially in the last ten minutes. Against USC we have to do that since the first minute. We have to make smarter decisions as a team and avoid unnecessary fouls."
#21 Micaela Cocks
On the loss:
"It's not the nicest feeling. There are positives in today's game and the way we played. For USC on Saturday we have to be strong and play with passion the whole time. I though we did a good job with defensive transitions tonight."
