Ducks Vanquish Vikings in Game 1

PORTLAND, Ore. - The UO softball team (14-26) opened Wednesday's doubleheader at Portland State with a 3-1 win at Erv Lind Stadium.
Senior Sari-Jane Jenkins ripped her fifth homer of the season to lead-off the game, a shot over the left field that stood as her fourth of the month and eighth of her career.
UO added another run in the third inning on an RBI single by junior Carlyn Re that scored junior Neena Bryant who had singled just before and advanced to second base on a fielding error by the left fielder.
The Ducks' final run came in the fifth, when Jenkins reached via a hit by pitch, stole second ? her second theft of the game - and came around to score on a bunt single by sophomore Cortney Kivett that was followed by a throwing error by the third baseman.
On the mound, freshman Samantha Skillingstad (11-10) pitched her 12th complete game of the season, struck out five, walked three and gave up three hits.
PSU (23-21) scored its lone run on a home run to center field by Brandi Scoggins with one out in the seventh inning. Viking starter Tori Rodgers (8-5) also threw a complete game and struck out eight, walked two and allowed five hits.
The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader immediately after Wednesday afternoon.
