Bristow Hits Midway Point at NCAA Champs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? University of Oregon senior Cathryn Bristow continued play Wednesday in second-round action in the 28th annual NCAA Women's Golf Championships, hosted by Georgetown at the Caves Valley Golf Club.
The Huapai, New Zealand native stood tied for 85th overall (78-79-155) on the par 72, 6,443-yard course.
On Wednesday, she shot par scores on 11 holes for the second straight day (#1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10-14, 17), and had bogeys on the remaining seven holes (#2, 5, 6, 9, 15, 16, 18).
Bristow opened the day tied for 60th overall in the 126-player field, based on her first-round, 6-over 78 Tuesday, and four of Wednesday's bogeys came on the same holes as Tuesday (#6, 9, 15, 16).
Overall on the leaderboard, UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe shot a six-under 66 in Wednesday's second round to move into the lead (75-66-141), ahead of Wake Forest's Nannette Hill (second-tie, 72-71-143), Denver's Stephanie Sherlock (second-tie, 70-73-143) and Pepperdine's Lisa McCloskey (second-tie, 74-69-143).
Sherlock and North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell (ninth-tie, 70-77-147) entered the day tied for the lead with their first round scores of 70 ? the only under-par scores the first round ? while only five others bettered 72 Wednesday.
Team-wise Wednesday, No. 2 UCLA climbed a position into the lead with the tourney's best score so far (296-293-589), and was followed by No. 4 USC (second, 301-295-596) and first-day leader and No. 14 Denver (third, 294-304-598).
Other teams in the top 10 included No. 1 Arizona State (fourth-tie, 302-298-600), No. 5 Oklahoma State (fourth-tie, 303-297-600), No. 10 North Carolina (fourth-tie, 299-301-600), No. 12 Wake Forest (seventh, 303-300-603), No. 7 LSU (eighth, 302-304-606), No. 3 Virginia (ninth-tie, 305-302-607), No. 6 Alabama (ninth-tie, 305-302-607) and No. 9 Purdue (ninth-tie, 306-301-607).
The rest of the team field includes Duke (12th, 308-301-609), No. 13 Pepperdine (13th-tie, 312-298-610), No. 17 Michigan State (13th-tie, 307-303-610), No. 20 Arizona (15th, 310-305-615), No. 29 Tulane (16th, 312-305-617), No. 24 Tennessee (17th, 307-313-620), No. 44 UT Chattanooga (18th-tie, 316-307-623), No. 15 Georgia (18th-tie, 316-307-623), No. 22 New Mexico (16th, 311-314-625), No. 38 Texas (20th-t, 314-311-625), No. 27 TCU (22nd, 314-316-630), No. 26 Ohio State (23rd, 323-311-634) and No. 18 UC Irvine (24th, 320-316-636).

Bristow is one of two individuals that advanced from the West Regional two weekends ago with Alice Davis of UC Davis who was tied for 16th Wednesday (74-75-149). Results for the other four qualifiers follows: UCF's Connelly (sixth-tie, 72-74-146), Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse (37th-t, 76-76-152), Oklahoma's Kendall Dye (65th-t, 82-72-154) and Wake Forest's Marina Alex (98th-t, 79-81-160).
Bristow is the third Duck to qualify individually for the collegiate finale, and six Oregon squads have also qualified in school history.
Before the collegiate finale, Bristow had led UO in 11 of 27 rounds this season, and 45 altogether in 114 career rounds. Tournament-wise, she had paced UO in 17 of her 40 collegiate events. This season she owns three of UO's under-par rounds (4-under 68, 3-under 69, 1-under 70), and four more rounds of par, and three of those seven rounds of par or better have come in the West Regional (69 (3-), 72 (par)) or Pac-10 Championships (70 (1-)) the past month. This week, she was ranked 64th nationally by Golf Stat and also stood 77th in the Golfweek rankings last week.
