Bristow Holds Steady in NCAA Third Round

OWINGS MILLS, Md. ? University of Oregon senior Cathryn Bristow continued her consistent play Thursday in third-round action in the 28th annual NCAA Women's Golf Championships, hosted by Georgetown at the Caves Valley Golf Club.
With all three of her rounds within a stroke of each other, the Huapai, New Zealand native stood tied for 87 overall (78-79-79-236) on the par 72, 6,443-yard course.
On Thursday, she carded her first birdie of the tournament on the par-5 third hole, parred 10 holes (#1, 2, 4, 8, 10-13, 16, 18), bogeyed six holes (#5-7, 9, 14, 17) and also had her first double-bogey of the tourney (#15).
She entered the day tied for 85th overall in the 126-player field, while she stood 60th overall the first day.
As a whole, the entire field continued to battle one of the nation's toughest golf courses as only five players shot under par Thursday, compared with five Wednesday and two Tuesday in the opening rounds.
Bristow suffered bogeys for the third straight day on the par-4 sixth, par-4 ninth, and par-3 15th holes, and also had bogeys for the second time in the tourney on the par-4 fifth, par-4 14th and par-5 17th holes.

Overall on the individual leaderboard, USC's Jennifer Song moved into the lead by two strokes (72-73-71-216) and is the only player in the tourney to shoot three rounds of 73 or better.
Second-round leader, Maria Jose Uribe of UCLA, dropped a spot (74-72-72-218) and is tied for second place with Purdue's Maria Hernandez (74-72-72-218). Alice Kim of UC Davis followed in fourth place, one stroke back (74-75-70-219).
Team-wise Thursday, No. 4 USC took its first lead of the tourney (301-295-294-890), while No. 1 Arizona State's third round 291 ? the best in the event so far ? moved the Sun Devils into second place (302-298-291-891) ahead of second-round leader and No. 2 UCLA (third, 296-293-304-893).
Other teams in the top 10 with one round remaining include No. 10 North Carolina (fourth, 299-301-306-906), No. 14 Denver (fifth, 294-304-309-907), No. 3 Virginia (sixth, 305-302-301-908), No. 5 Oklahoma State (seventh, 303-297-309-909). No. 11 Duke (eighth, 308-301-302-911), No. 13 Pepperdine (ninth, 312-298-302-912) and No. 7 LSU (10th, 302-304-309-915).

Bristow is one of two individuals that advanced from the West Regional two weekends ago with Alice Kim of UC Davis who stood fourth Thursday (74-75-70-219). Results for the other four qualifiers follow: Central Florida's Connelly (fifth-tie, 72-74-75-221), Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse (31st-t, 76-76-75-227), Oklahoma's Kendall Dye (54th-t, 82-73-76-231) and Wake Forest's Marina Alex (74th-t, 79-8174-234).
Bristow is the third Duck to qualify individually for the collegiate finale, and six Oregon squads have also qualified in school history.
Before the collegiate finale, Bristow had led UO in 11 of 27 rounds this season, and 45 altogether in 114 career rounds. Tournament-wise, she had paced UO in 17 of her 40 collegiate events. This season she owns three of UO's under-par rounds (4-under 68, 3-under 69, 1-under 70), and four more rounds of par, and three of those seven rounds of par or better have come in the West Regional (69 (3-), 72 (par)) or Pac-10 Championships (70 (1-)) the past month. This week, she was ranked 64th nationally by Golf Stat and also stood 77th in the Golfweek rankings last week.
