Oregon - UC Riverside Postgame Quotes
12/15/10 | Women's Basketball
Oregon 69, UC Riverside 74
December 14, 2010
Head Coach Paul Westhead
On the game:
"It was not really a good result; our performance wasn't up to the test. Despite our inconsistencies, we played good enough to win, but we have to give them (UC Riverside) due credit."
On the 10 day break:
"We didn't deal with the 10 day exam break well and we didn't show up tonight. We should have played better tonight; I can't let myself or my players off the hook just because of studying."
On the free throws:
"I go over three or four key categories after games; I already warned them that shooting 64% on free throws...never did I think we would be shooting 42.9%."
On how to overcome this loss:
"We encourage them to keep playing and to just get through it. We need to learn from this, which I will emphasize to them, this team has always been evolving and we haven't found what we're best at yet, and the absence of the freshman (Ariel Thomas and Deanna Weaver) didn't help. Nia (Jackson) is a tough competitive player, I felt for her tonight, but she'll bounce back."
Junior forward Amanda Johnson
On the game:
"It was very frustrating for everyone; the players, the coaches, the fans, but we can't let the frustration get to us. We did not work through our frustrations as a team tonight. We'd get on a roll, but then we'd make a mistake and fall behind."
On what went wrong tonight:
"We are consistently making bad decisions and consistently not doing what we need to do. We stopped communicating and playing because we were so stuck on what they were doing."
On what's next:
"We just need to communicate with each other; we're still trying to find our identity as a team."
