KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 12 University of Oregon women's golf team opened action in its fall finale, the Mercedes-Benz SEC-Pac-12 Challenge, tied for 14th place Friday at the Holston Hills Country Club.
The Ducks shot a 13-over score of 301 on the par-72, 6,447-yard course, and were tied for 14th place in the all-star field featuring 11 top-15 ranked teams.
Overall in the team standings, No. 1 UCLA shot a seven-under 281, and owned a three-stroke edge over No. 6 Alabama (second, 284). No. 27 Tennessee followed in third place (291), and three other teams followed in a tie for fourth place at 295.
"We got off to a rough start today," Oregon head coach Ria Scott said, "but we were starting to get a better fell for the course towards the end today. We will be more adjusted to the greens Saturday, and will keep adjusting to the conditions. We have full confidence in our team, and can't wait to tee it up in the second round."
Freshman Cassy Isagawa paced UO for the seventh straight round this season, and was tied for 15th overall. Her even-par score of 72 was her sixth straight at par or better and eighth overall in 10 fall rounds."I made of a lot up and downs (on the course) today," Isagawa said. "That really really helped my score, so I was happy with that."
Two other Ducks were tied for 46th place in the 120-player field - junior Cheyenne Hickle and sophomore Raphaela Dyer - with three-over scores of 75.
Senior Ashley Edwards rounded out the Ducks' scoring (90th-t, 79), and freshman Cali Hipp (104th-t, 82) also competed Friday.
On the individual leaderboard, Stephanie Meadow of Alabama and Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt were tied for the lead with four-under scores of 68. Stephanie Kono of UCLA followed in third place with a three-under 69, and five other places were tied for fourth place with two-under scores of 70.
