Head Coach Paul Westhead
On game:
“No excuses, our team played as hard as they could. In the first half we had good offensive execution and we weren't giving up on second shots. We have to play a high thirty minutes. In the second half we broke down half a dozen times on defense and we were missing shots. This combo is a tough one to recover on.”
On effort:
“Some of the players made mistakes but Ariel Thomas, she is a tough lady. She jumps out as an example.”
On three freshmen starting:
“As a group they have given us a new shot of life. “
“This is a very very important week. Going forward we could surprise people. I am pleased with these freshmen.”
On help from the bench:
“Others who are experienced should be fresh, fit and ready to step in and carry for us. Jasmin Holiday is a good basketball player for us. We need that spread around and then we would truly be a ten man team.”
On USC's 19 point run and solving the problem:
“We had a defensive breakdown. I am seeing a tiredness that leads to inappropriate shot taking on the offensive end. I ask myself 'Which one do I want to change?' It is a hard one.”
On Forward Danielle Love:
“She is an improvement in the area of rebounding. She is feisty and she will get after you and the ball.”
Freshman Guard Ariel Thomas:
On how they can start to win games:
“I think we came out with great intensity. Our problem is sustaining it for forty minutes. Right now it's something we can't maintain and that we need to grow.”
Freshman Forward Deanna Weaver:
On the fact that they have lost six games in a row:
“We're frustrated that we are losing but we have to keep pushing forward.”
On the upcoming Civil War:
“Everyone needs to take all of their aggression from losing these games and turn it around in the Civil War so we can start a new winning streak.”
Senior Guard Tatianna Thomas:
On how to stay competitive for the entirety of a game:
“We can't panic when a team scores. Sometimes we get a bit of anxiety so we come down on the other side and force a shot or a pass. We have a lot of fight in ourselves and we just need to calm down and I think we will be fine.”
On the importance of offense:
“We need to get rebounds on their missed shots so we can quickly come down on the other end which helps start our offense.”
On the Civil War:
“The Civil War is always important and a big game. We are coming out ready to fight and win.”
