
Schyllander Signs Five-Star Recruit

Oregon men's tennis head coach Nils Schyllander continues to land the top talent in the Pacific Northwest as he announced the signing of five-star recruit Ty Gentry today. A product of Olympia, Wash., Gentry is ranked No. 2 in the state of Washington and Northwest region as well as No. 27 in the country, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
“We are thrilled with the addition of Ty to the Duck Family,” Schyllander said. “His upside is huge and both Coach Piibor and myself feel there are no limits to what he can accomplish at Oregon. In addition to being an outstanding tennis player, Ty is a tremendous person who will fit in great with our team and with the culture we are building as a program.”
Gentry has garnered numerous accolades from his prep and junior career. Competing for Tumwater High School in Olympia, Gentry is a three-time state finalist and was the 2A State Champion in 2014 and 2015. He also helped his squad claim the team title in 2014 as well. Additionally he claimed the 18's doubles title at the Pacific Northwest Sectionals in 2014 and was crowned the singles champion in 2015.
Gentry has a 15-3 overall record on the junior circuit and is 2-1 vs. Blue Chips, 2-2 against 5-star recruits and 5-0 against four-star recruits. He was ranked as high as No. 24 in the U.S.. in 2015, by TennisRecruiting.net.
The Ducks are closing out their fall season at the Kramer Classic this week. Opening rounds started today at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club in Los Angeles.
