Scouting The Field
The field is headlined by No. 3 Stanford, the second-highest ranked program in the Pac-12 behind No. 2 USC. The Cardinal will likely be tabbed as the favorite because of their ranking and their familiarity with their home course. Stanford won the Stanford Intercollegiate during the fall season in October with a three-round total of 837 (282-279-274).
After the hosts, the Ducks will be among a group of teams that are ranked in the top-40 of the Golfstat.com team rankings. No. 36 Oregon will be joined by No. 30 UC Davis, No. 34 California, No. 35 Colorado and No. 38 Gonzaga.
No. 47 San Jose State, No. 49 Denver, Cal State Northridge, Nevada, UC Irvine and San Francisco are the other five teams that will be competing.
Last Time Out
The Ducks kicked off their spring season last weekend at the inaugural Civil War Match Play Challenge when they defeated Oregon State 6.5 – 2.5 at Waverley Country Club in Portland, Ore.
The two rivals played 18 holes in a greensome format in the morning and 18 holes in a singles match play format in the afternoon. The score was tied 1.5 – 1.5 at the conclusion of the first round, but Oregon would go on to win five of the six singles matches to run away with the match.
Santoso (5 and 4), Pranovia (3 and 2), Ulep (5 and 3), Inglis (3 and 1) and Hipp (3 and 2) all recorded victories in singles match play.
History at the Peg Barnard
Last year Oregon took fifth place in a 14-team field after shooting a 596 (296-300). Last year's total was the lowest score the Ducks have ever recorded at the tournament. Their lowest finishes are two third-place finishes in 2010 (607) and 1998 (613).
Familiar Territory
Having already played at the Stanford Intercollegiate in the fall season, UO is familiar with the layout of the Stanford Golf Course. The Ducks fired a 6-over 290 in the second round, good for their lowest round of the fall.
Solid Fall Season
With a 298.83 scoring average in the fall season, Oregon is on pace to have the second-lowest scoring average in school history. Last year the Ducks set the school record finishing the year with a 297.16.
