Ducks Return to Win Column After Defeating Montana 5-2

EUGENE – The Oregon women's tennis team returned to the win column on Friday after a 5-2 defeat of Montana at the UO Outdoor Tennis Courts.
How It Happened: The match started out with the freshmen duo of Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita racing through Montana's (0-3) pair of Precious Gbadamosi and Laurence Pelchat, 6-1. However, the Grizzles battled back to tie things up at one win apiece with the 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Kadie Hueffner and Lina Åkesson fought back-and-forth with Cam Kincaid and Hannah Sulz at No. 3 doubles, and forced the UM pair into a tiebreaker after trailing 5-3. The two were able to pull out the win, 7-6 (3), and give UO (2-2) the doubles point.
Kluiving flexed her muscles against Sulz at singles No. 4, and bested the sophomore 6-0, 6-2 to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Montana tied things up at 2-2 after Montana won the No. 6 and No. 2 singles match.
Nicole Long gave UO the 3-2 edge when she bested Pelchat 6-2, 7-6 (6). Like Long, Rose was tested in her second set, but took control of the match in the tiebreaker to clinch the match for UO with her – 6-3, 7-6 (4) – win at No. 1 singles.
Åkesson also had to fight off her opponent, and needed a third set to win. After UM's Kincaid took the second set, 6-3, the sophomore took control of the match and defeated Kincaid 6-1 in the third set.
Who Stood Out: Kluiving improved to 12-2 on the year in singles play and 4-0 in dual play with her win today, a team best for both. Rose and Tobita are now 15-5 in doubles action and 3-1 in dual play.

Up Next: The Ducks will now battle Iowa at noon on Sunday, Feb. 15, at home. The Hawkeyes however will first play Montana on Saturday at noon before facing the Ducks
