Cathleen Santoso Leads Oregon At Even Par After First 36 Holes
CHICAGO, Ill. – The Oregon women's golf team endured an up-and-down first day at the Windy City Collegiate on Monday, shooting 12-over as a team through the first 36 holes of stroke play at Glen View Club.
How It Happened: Coming off back-to-back top-three finishes to open their fall season, the Ducks shot a combined 6-over 293 in the opening round to sit in 12th in the 14-team field going into the second round. Oregon went 7-over in the second round to head into Tuesday's final round in 11th place.
Oregon was led by senior Cathleen Santoso, who sits in a tie for 17th on the individual leaderboard after playing par golf through the first two rounds. The Sydney, Australia native started her day with a 2-over 74 in the opening round, going 1-over on both the front and the back-nine. Santoso found her groove in the second round, firing a 2-under to get back to even. Santoso had three birdies in the second round, including two on the front nine.
Right behind Santoso were sophomores Petra Salko and Kathleen Scavo, who both finished the day 4-over in a tie for 38th. Salko started strong with an even-par 72 in the first round, including four birdies, but five bogies in the second round raised her score. Scavo endured a similar route, shooting a 1-over 73 before five bogies across the second 18 holes pushed her to 4-over.
Freshman Amy Matsuoka finished the day 5-over in a tie for 46th, firing a 3-over 75 in the first round and a 2-over 74 in the second. Matsuoka has recorded two top-10 finishes in her first two collegiate events, tying for 10th at the Red Raider Invitational and 8th in the stroke play portion of the East and West Match Play Challenge. Fellow freshman Brooke Hamilton was 2-over in the first round before struggling with five bogies in the second to finish 7-over.
Senior Marcella Pranovia made her fall debut competing as an individual and ended the day at 8-over, but finished strong with a 3-over second round that included a 1-over front nine.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Glen View on Tuesday for the final 18 holes of the tournament.
