03/26/16 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Oregon women's tennis team fell, 7-0, to USC at Marks Tennis Stadium on Friday. The Ducks dropped to 11-4 overall and 2-2 in Pac-12 play.
How It Happened: The Ducks dropped the doubles point to the 29th-ranked Trojans, giving up matches on the first two doubles courts. Oregon's Kennan Johnson and Shweta Sangwan fell, 6-0, to the eighth-ranked USC tandem of Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith. The Trojans clinched the point when No. 71 Zoë Katz and Madison Westby defeated Duck sophomores Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita.
Rose dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match on No. 4 to No. 108 Gabby Smith which extended the Trojan lead to 2-0.
Tobita's impressive 12-match win streak was snapped on Friday when she fell to 123rd-ranked Madison Westby, 6-1, 6-3, on No. 2. The loss marked Tobita's first of the dual season.
The match was clinched for the Trojans on court six when freshman Daniela Nasser fell, 6-4, 6-1, to No. 106 Rianna Valdes. USC's No. 99 Jessica Failla would pile on with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marlou Kluiving.
After dropping her first set, 7-5, to No. 22 Giuliana Olmos on No. 1, sophomore Kenna Johnson bounced back to take the second set, 6-3, and force a third-set super tiebreaker. Olmost would come up victorious in the tiebreaker, however, as Johnson fell, 10-3.
Shweta Sangwan forced a third set tiebreaker as well in a closely-contested match on No. 3. Sangwan won the second set 7-5, after falling in a first-set deciding 8-6 tiebreaker. The Duck freshman couldn't get over the hump however, coming up short, 10-7, in the final tiebreaker.
Up Next: The Ducks will wrap up their weekend in Los Angeles against No. 32 UCLA on Saturday at noon at the LA Tennis Center.
