
Oregon Finishes Day One in Ojai

OJAI, Calif. – The Oregon women's tennis team wrapped up day one of action at the Pac-12 Tennis Championships at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.
How It Happened: Four Ducks saw action in the first day of singles competition, with freshman Shweta Sangwan and sophomores Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita competing in the singles championship bracket. Junior Marlou Kluiving was one of 32 players competing in the singles invitational bracket.
Sangwan came out of the gate strong in her round of 32 match against Arizona's Shayne Austin. The Oregon freshman handled Austin in the first set 6-2, before Austin responded with a 7-5 win in the second. The two were neck and neck in the final frame, with the match eventually being decided by a tiebreaker, in which Austin was victorious, 7-1.
Tobita drew a tough matchup in her first-round match, going up against No. 24 Giuliana Olmos of USC. The Mililani, Hawaii, native came up short, however, falling, 6-2, 6-0.
Also playing a ranked opponent in Stanford's No. 82 Caroline Doyle, Nia Rose dropped her round of 32 match, 6-2, 6-3.
Kluiving closed out the day for Oregon in the invitational bracket. The junior fell, 6-2, 6-4, to Cal's Olivia Hauger.
Up Next: The Ducks now turn their attention to the doubles championships, which are set to begin Friday. The 81st-ranked duo of Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita will open play in the championship bracket at 9 a.m. against Washington State's Trang Huynh and Victoria Matejevic.
In the invitational bracket, Paloma Gomez and Marlou Kluiving will face off with Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller from UCLA at 9 a.m.
