
Softball Sweeps Doubleheader

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 6 ranked Oregon softball team scored 18 total runs and swept a doubleheader against Portland State on Tuesday night at Jane Sanders Stadium.
In the first game, Gwen Svekis to back pitcher Megan Kleist, who allowed one run on five hits in five innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
In the second game, the Ducks smashed three homers in support of Cheridan Hawkins, who struck out 12 batters in a dominating effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED: In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Ducks put up three runs in the seecond inning to take an early lead. After leading the bases, Sammie Puentes drew a walk, Alyssa Gillespie was hit by a pitch and Danica Mercado stole home to bring home three runs without a hit.
After the Ducks scored again in the third, UO tallied another three runs in the fifth, including Svekis' two-run homer, her 10th of the season.
After Kleist tossed five strong inning, Geri Ann Glasco threw a scoreless sixth and seventh to limit Portland State to just one run in the game.
Mercado went 3-for-3 in the opening game to lead the Ducks.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Oregon came out swinging early. Nikki Udria hit a two-run homer to left center to put the Ducks up, 2-0, while Lauren Lindvall followed with a RBI single. A throwing error allowed another run to score and the final run of the inning came home on a RBI double by Janelle Lindvall.
In a four-run third inning, Lauren Lindvall hit another RBI single while Janelle Lindvall smoked a three-run homer to center.
The Ducks weren't done scoring, as they tallied two runs in the fourth inning. Geri Ann Glasco hit a two-run homer after a Koral Costa single started the inning.
Hawkins struck out nine batters in four scoreless innings before being pulled for a reliever. After Portland State scored three runs, Hawkins came back on with one out. She struck out the next two batters to end the game via run-rule.
BOX SCORE BLAST: Freshman Madi Bishop started both games at first base for the Ducks. She scored twice and drove in a run in the doubleheader...Lauren Lindvall went 3-for-3 in the second game after not tallying a hit in the first game...Nikki Udria now has a team-high 11 homers on the season.
UP NEXT: The Ducks visit rival Oregon State this weekend with a three-game series in Corvallis starting Friday on Pac-12 Networks.
