Three Ducks Garner Academic Honors
05/27/16 | Women's Golf
SAN FRANCISCO – Three members of the Oregon women's golf team were recognized by the Pac-12 for their academic efforts.
Junior Cathleen Santoso was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic second team, while senior Caroline Inglis and sophomore Kelsey Ulep received honorable mention.
This is the second career accolade for Santoso, who is a journalism-advertising major. The Sydney, Australia product was named to the first team in 2015. Inglis, the lone senior on this year's team, has received her degree earlier this spring in business. Â She was also named honorable mention in 2014 and 2013. This is the first career honor for Ulep who hasn't declared her major yet.
"We are proud of the way our student-athletes are able to balance their academic commitments with high level golf," seventh year head coach Ria Scott said. "This recognition really speaks to their work ethic and their goals to be well-rounded people."
To be eligible for the Pac-12 academic selections, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's events. This is the third straight year that three members of the team have been recognized.
The Ducks capped off the best season in school history on Tuesday when they advanced to the match play quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships, held at Eugene Country Club.
Oregon officially finished sixth at the national championships, based on their stroke play finish at the completion of Sunday's round when the entire 24-team field was competing. That place surpasses the seventh place finish of the 1997 team, making it the highest finish ever in program history. In the final Golfstat rankings, UO was slotted at No. 17, marking the highest ranking ever.
