07/25/16 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon women's tennis team will appear in four tournaments during the 2016 fall slate, as announced by head coach Alison Silverio announced on Monday.
"We have a competitive schedule lined-up for the fall with a mixture of individual and team events," said Silverio. "Starting individually with the All-American Championships and the Northwest Regional, which are both opportunities to compete against the of the best players in college tennis. The Jack Kramer Tournament will round out our individual events for the fall. Our team events will consist of the Georgia State Invitational and Gonzaga Invitational. These will be two very valuable experiences, because we will play and compete as a team. Our Ducks have been putting in solid work and the fall will be a great addition to our development."
Upon selection, members of the Ducks will compete at the 2016 Riviera ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., which will take place from Saturday, Oct. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 9.
The Ducks will officially open the season at the 2016 ITA Regional Championships hosted by Stanford from Friday, Oct. 21 through Monday, Oct. 24 in Palo Alto, Calif.
A quick turnaround of three days will have Oregon in Atlanta, Ga. to compete as a team at the Georgia State Invitational from Friday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 30.
Following the trip to Georgia, the Ducks will fly to Los Angeles, Calif. for individual matches from Thursday. Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invite.
The 2016-17 Ducks will be led by two seniors, Paloma Gomez and Marlou Kluiving and two juniors, Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita. Newcomers Julia Eshet and Dwi Kahfiani will join sophomores Daniela Nasser and Shweta Sangwan to comprise the lower classmen.
Silverio and assistant coach Tony Giannoni enter their third year at the helm of the University of Oregon women's tennis program. In 2016, Silverio led the Ducks to an 11-11 season that included Oregon's first 3-0 start in Pac-12 play since the 2004 season. Under her watch, Sangwan and Tobita each racked up 21 overall singles wins, while Tobita and Rose teamed up to go 12-6 overall and 10-4 in doubles to become the second-winningest tandem in school history. The Ducks were also ranked as high as No. 28 in the ITA team rankings and capitalized off ranked wins over Washington State, Arizona and Washington.
