THE OREGON WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM SHOT ITS BEST ROUND OF THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS ON MONDAY AT 20 OVER TO CONCLUDE STROKE PLAY
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Oregon women's golf team wrapped up the stroke play portion of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships on Monday with a 20-over 308 at Rich Harvest Farms.
The Ducks (333, 319, 308 - 960, +96) finished stroke play in 24th place in the Championship field, bringing an end to yet another successful season for head coach Ria Scott's squad.
"We didn't have out best game this week, and there wasn't much room for error on this demanding golf course," said Scott. "But it was another terrific season for us overall. The gains our players made on a personal level were so much greater than any accomplishments on the golf course this season. Those are the gains that can't be measured or given a score."
How it Happened: Entering the final round of stroke play in 24th and seeking a strong finish, the Ducks put together their best round of the tournament and improved by 11 strokes from Sunday's round.
Sophomore Kathleen Scavo enjoyed the best round of the Championships for the Ducks on Monday, shooting an even-par 72 after going 1 under across her 11 holes. Scavo finished stroke play as the top Duck on the leaderboard at 18 over.
"I am so happy for Kathleen," Scott said. "Even-par on this course is phenomenal."
Senior Marcella Pranovia wrapped her collegiate career with a 5-over 77, and closed the NCAA Championships at 26 over. Fellow senior Cathleen Santoso also finished at 26 over for the tournament after a 10-over 82 on Monday, a score that did not count towards the Ducks' overall total for the day.
Sophomore Petra Salko fired a 6-over 78 on Monday to come in at 28 over, and Kelsey Ulep rounded out Monday's counting scores with a 9-over 81. Ulep finished the tournament at 31 over.
What it Means: The Ducks close out another successful season that saw them reach the NCAA Championships for the second straight year and the fourth time in eight years under Scott. Oregon advanced to the Championships after finishing third at the Lubbock NCAA Regional, the best finish in program history. The Ducks also made it 10 straight years with NCAA Regional appearances.
Santoso and Pranovia each wrap their Oregon careers. Pranovia ends her time as a collegian after matching her career-low round with a 67 in the second round of the Regional, and was in the No. 1 spot for the Ducks in the Championships. Santoso completes a tremendous career that has seen her etch her name into the Oregon record books. She is tied for the most counting scores in Oregon history with 130, owns the most rounds played with 138, and has the third-best career scoring average at 73.78.
"Marcella and Cathleen have been part of record-breaking accomplishments during their time here at Oregon," said Scott. "We are grateful for all they've done for our program and, to be honest, it's hard to imagine this team without them.
"They came in as girls, and they leave here as Women of Oregon."
