Xiong Has Strong Showing at Walker Cup

LOS ANGELES - Oregon sophomore men's golfer Norman Xiong finished the weekend 3-0-1 to help the United States team to a 19-7 blowout win over Team Great Britain and Ireland in the 46th Walker Cup Saturday and Sunday.
Xiong opened the weekend with a dominant win in the foursome matches Saturday morning, teaming up with Collin Morikawa to defeat Harry Ellis and Alfie Plant 8&7. He scored his second point of the day with a 2&1 win in singles play over Connor Syme to help give the U.S. a commanding 8-4 lead after day one.
Xiong again teamed with Morikawa in the foursome matches Sunday morning to pick up another point for the U.S. with a 2 up victory over Syme and Paul McBride and help stretch the lead to 11-5 heading into singles matches.
He halved his match with Great Britain and Ireland's Scott Gregory to give the U.S. 13.5 points for the match and secure the win.
