Ducks Ninth After Round One at Poppy Hills

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oregon opened the Saint Mary's Invitational Monday at Poppy Hills Golf Club by shooting 7 over to sit in ninth place.
How it Happened: Craig Ronne tied a season-low with an even-par 71 and is tied for 13th. He turned in steady play throughout the day, starting 1 over on the back nine and making birdies at holes one and six to move into red numbers. The freshman bogeyed the par-3 eighth hole to drop back to even before making par to close the day at the par-5 ninth.
Edwin Yi shot 1 under on the back nine after a pair of birdies and a bogey before dropping shots at holes three and seven to fall over par for the round. He closed with a birdie at the par-5 ninth to finish with an even-par 71.
Ryan Gronlund was even through 16 holes but made back-to-back bogeys to close the round and shot a 2-over 73. Sam Foust shot a 5-over 76 and Donald Kay finished with a 6-over 77.
BYU holds the first-round lead by 10 shots at 13 under while the Cougars' Peter Kuest shot a 10-under 61 to take a seven shot lead in the individual race.
