Oregon beach volleyball avenged a season-opening loss to Portland on Saturday, taking down the Pilots, 3-2, at Chemeketa Community College
SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon beach volleyball avenged a season-opening loss to Portland on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Pilots, 3-2, at Chemeketa Community College.
How it Happened: After falling to Portland (2-6) in their season opener on March 24, the Ducks (2-4) evened the score with the Pilots while playing through windy and rainy conditions.
Senior Marine Hall-Poirier and freshman Kyra Hanawahine gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead with a 21-15, 21-15 win on the No. 5 court. The pair of Maggie Scott and Ronika Stone then overcame a 21-17 first-set loss at the No. 4 spot to win the next two sets, 21-13, 15-13, and extend the Oregon lead to 2-0.
The No. 3 duo of Willow Johnson and Lauren Page bounced back after dropping the first set to force a third with a 22-20 win, but Portland held on, 15-13, to put its first point on the board.
Senior Taylor Agost and freshman newcomer Josie Cole won the first set, 21-19, before falling in the second set, 18-21, on the No. 2 court, and the pair was able to pull out a 15-12 third-set win and clinch the match for the Ducks. August Raskie and Lindsey Vander Weide battled in a hard-fought match on the top court, but fell in three sets, 21-11, 18-21, 15-12.
