Xiong Selected to All-Nicklaus Team
06/22/18 | Men's Golf
Norman Xiong was one of 24 named to the All-Nicklaus Team presented by Barbasol by the Golf Coaches Association of America Friday. He is the third different Oregon player to receive the honor since it began in 2008 after Wyndham Clark in 2017 and Eugene Wong in 2010 and 2012.
The Canyon Lake, Calif. native put together the best individual season in program history, winning six times to double the old record of three. He went on an unbelievable stretch of three consecutive victories at the Duck Invitational, The Goodwin and Western Intercollegiate before claiming medalist honors at the Stockton Regional. Xiong also won twice in the fall at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational and the Nike Collegiate Invitational.
The sophomore finished the year with a scoring average of 69.05 and shot in the 60s in 23 of his 38 rounds. He also was the low scorer for the team in 10 of the 13 tournaments and shot over par in just seven rounds.
Xiong has already earned numerous accolades for his tremendous play this season. He won the Fred Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award, both given to the national player of the year, and was a PING First-Team All-American. Xiong was also named first-team All-Pac-12 and was selected to the PING All-West Region team.
