09/13/18 | Women's Golf
EAST AND WEST MATCH PLAY
The Ducks open their fall schedule on Sunday at the East and West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Mich. The event, hosted by Michigan and Wisconsin, will take place at Radrick Farms Golf Course (par 72, 6,292 yards). The competing teams (Oregon, Michigan, Iowa State, Ohio State, Oregon State, Texas A&M, UC Davis and Wisconsin) will play 36 holes on Sunday to determine the team seeds for match play. Match play will then take place on Monday and Tuesday in two four-team brackets - the championship bracket and the consolation bracket.
GOING LOW
Freshman Tze-Han Lin shot a 60 on Tuesday at Eugene Country Club during a fundraiser round from the reds with club members. In addition to Lin, the Ducks have two other freshmen on the roster this season. Bella Setio is from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., while Simar Singh is from Los Altos, Calif.
SHINING IN THE CLASSROOM
The Ducks shined in the classroom last season. Petra Salko was a third team academic All-American in addition to being a first team Pac-12 all-academic pick. Amy Matsuoka and Kathleen Scavo were also Pac-12 all-academic selections.
NCAA QUALIFIERS
The Ducks qualified for NCAA regionals for the 11th straight season in 2018. No. 14 seed Oregon was tied for fourth after two rounds but a tough final round pushed the Ducks back to a 14th place finish. Kathleen Scavo finished a team-best 22nd.
SUMMER TOURNAMENTS
The Ducks had some success over the summer. Kathleen Scavo won the Women's Trans National Golf Association amateur title at Peach Tree Golf Club in Marysville, Calif., and she was also the runner-up at the California Women's Amateur Championship. Tze-Han Lin and Amy Matsuoka were tied for first after day one at the 2018 U.S. Women's Amatuer. Matsuoka ended up finishing tied for 21st.
HEAD COACH DEREK RADLEY
Oregon athletics director Rob Mullens announced Derek Radley as the Ducks' new women's golf head coach on June 13, 2018. Radley was the associate head coach at Arizona for the past six seasons, helping the Wildcats to the 2018 NCAA national championship. The Wildcats earned five top-10 NCAA finishes in Radley's six seasons with the squad, culminating with the 2018 national title. Radley won a Pac-12 title with Arizona in 2015. He coached seven All-Americans in his time in Tucson and UA was ranked in the top-12 nationally in each of his six seasons.
ASSISTANT COACH MONICA VAUGHN
Head coach Derek Radley announced the hiring of former Arizona State standout Monica Vaughn on Aug. 2, 2018. Vaughn, a native of Reedsport, Ore., is making her collegiate coaching debut for the Ducks in 2018-19. Vaugn won both the NCAA regional and national championship as a senior at ASU in 2017 before graduating magna cum laude. After winning the individual title, she helped the Sun Devils to a team title in 2017 as well. She was named the Pac-12 women's golfer of the year and a first team All-American. She was the Oregon high school champion in both 2011 and 2013 at Reedsport HS.
