Ducks Lead Going to Second Day of Bruin Wave Invitational
02/25/19 | Women's Golf
SAN LUIS OBISPO - The Oregon women's golf team sits in first place going into the second and final day of the Bruin Wave Invitational at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Oregon sat in second, just one stroke back of Northwestern, at the end of the first round but the Ducks have climbed into the lead with a strong second round. Play was called due to darkness, meaning the Ducks sit in first with three holes left to play for Amy Matsuoka, Tze-Han Lin and Kathleen Scavo.
Scavo sits atop the individual leaderboard at even par. She is 1-under thus far in her second round. Scavo started her first round on the back nine, with three birdies and two bogeys. She bogeyed twice in the front nine to finish her first round at 1-over 73. She again started her second round on the back nine and used birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 and a bogey on No. 14 to go 1-under. She is even par on the front nine thus far with three left to play.
Fellow senior Petra Salko is in third after a 1-over 73 in both her first and second rounds. Salko was 1-under going into her final hole of the first round but a double bogey moved her to 1-over.
Matsuoka, who like Scavo still needs to finish her second round, is currently tied for 15th at 6-over.
Scavo has one other first place finish in her career, when she tied for the lead at the East and West Match Play in September 2017. Salko's best career finish was fifth at the SunTrust Gator Invite in March 2018.
