03/17/19 | Women's Tennis

The Oregon women's tennis team took three matches to third sets, but ultimately fell to WSU, 4-1, on Sunday.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Three singles matches went into third sets, but the Oregon women's tennis team couldn't hold on against No. 36 Washington State, falling 4-1 on Sunday.

How It Happened: The afternoon began with Oregon (6-9, 0-4 Pac-12) surrendering the doubles point to Washington State (15-4, 1-2 Pac-12) after the Cougs claimed wins on courts two and three. On court one, Shweta Sangwan and Rifanty Kahfiani were leading No. 71 Hikaru Sato and Tiffany Mylonas, 5-2, before their match went unfinished.

Washington State continued to build on its early lead as the match transitioned into singles, securing a straight-set win on court two to take a 2-0 lead over Oregon.

Paiton Wagner put the Ducks on the board, winning her ninth match of the dual season in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, on court four.

From there, WSU would rattle off two more wins on courts one and three to clinch the victory on its home courts.
