LAST TIME OUT
Oregon finished tied for ninth at The Goodwin against an elite 27-team field at 27 over for the tournament. The Ducks got off to a solid start, sitting in a tie for fifth after round one, but shot 10 over in both rounds two and three to slide out of the top five. Ryan Gronlund was the low finisher for the Ducks, coming in tied for 19th at 4 over. He was 2 under heading into the final round after rounds of 70 and 68 to start, but went 6 over in round three. Yin Ho Yue had another solid week, shooting rounds of 1-over 71 around a 6-over 76 in round two to finish tied for 46th at 8 over. Oregon finished ahead of No. 16 SMU and No. 36 Florida while coming in tied with No. 27 BYU.
VETERANS LEADING THE WAY
Edwin Yi and Ryan Gronlund each have turned in strong play throughout the spring to lead the Ducks. Gronlund got his first collegiate win at the Duck Invitational, shooting 5 under. His victory was the first for an Oregon individual since Norman Xiong won the 2018 Stockton Regional. He had a streak of three top-10 finishes at The Prestige (10th), Bandon Dunes Championship (T9th) and the Duck Invitational (1st). Gronlund came in tied for 12th at the Amer Ari Invitational, highlighted by a career-low 7-under 65 in the opening round. He finished 10th at The Prestige and tied for ninth at the Bandon Dunes Championship. Yi came in tied for second at the Amer Ari Invitational, finishing behind only collegiate No. 1 player Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State, and came in ahead of a number of other highly-ranked players, including Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State and USC's Justin Suh.
COMPETING WITH THE BEST
Oregon has bested a number of top teams throughout the spring, going against strong fields in each of its five events. The Ducks were ranked 39th in the latest Golfstat rankings, up six spots from the end of the fall. At the Amer Ari Invitational, the Ducks came in tied for fourth and finished ahead of then No. 2 Georgia Tech and perennial powerhouse programs Stanford and Texas Tech. Oregon finished tied with No. 6 USC and finished behind only No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Texas and No. 13 Auburn. A week later at The Prestige, the Ducks finished in fifth place, coming in ahead of No. 14 Arkansas and other quality teams in Iowa State, Northwestern and Stanford.
